Water heater upgrade in Brookside, DE.

Location

Brookside, DE
19713

Date

January 2026

Role

plumbing

Project type

electric water heater

This water heater did not have an expansion tank which protects the plumbing system from thermal expansion.
What is thermal expansion and why does my water heater need an expansion tank?
Have you ever boiled a pot of milk to make hot chocolate? If you are like me, you put the lid on, walked away and ran back into your kitchen with the lid blown off the pot and milk all over your stove.
Imagine your water heater is that pot of hot milk. If you don't have an expansion tank to relieve the pressure of the water heating up, your plumbing can wear out over time like high blood pressure.
Anyways, I made all my connections using type "L" copper pipe (the good stuff) and good old fashion solder. Finally, I added unions so that the next guy can easily remove the water heater whenever it reaches it's lifespan.

If you have a pipe that's leaking on to your floor, give me a call!

“Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
